Team GT
What follows below are the tournament rules for Team GT. In the interests of fairness, and open competition, I have endeavoured to make the scoring system as transparent as possible. To use a common wargaming phrase, "what you see is what you get!'' The rules should cover most eventualities, however in the event of an issue arising that is not covered by this document, the decision of the tournament convener, Geoff Tewierik is final.
The Entry form for Team GT has all the relevant details regarding venue, costs and requirements of teams wishing to enter the event.
The overall objectives of Team GT is to promote the game of Warhammer Fantasy Battles (WFB) in Brisbane, bring new players into the tournament community and to have fun. Team GT has the support of the Queensland Gamers Guild, Games Workshop. Team GT uses the rules outlined below.
The tournament will consist of four games in one day on Saturday the 26th July.
Teams of 3 players (preferably made up of the members from one club/establishment), will be ranked from one to three, with the best player in the team at ranking position one down to three for the not so best player. One team will play a round against another team. Ranked one players from both teams will play each other, rank two against two, and rank three against three. At the end of the round, the teams combined battle score will determine which team they will face in the next round.
The time breakdown for the day is as follows:
Players will be asked to score their opponents in both Sportsmanship and Composition i.e. Gamesmanship at the end of each game. These scores will go towards the final overall score to determine the best team.
There will also be an Appearance component judged by the Tournament Organiser and it will include Players votes from the Beauty Pageant.
The categories used to determine the overall champion team will be:
The methods used to score each of these categories will be addressed in detail below.
There will be trophies awarded in the following categories:
The aim is to make 1st - 3rd position trophies available in the overall category.
Armies used at Team GT must use figures representative of the troops in their army list, and must be fully painted. "What You See is What You Get" (WYSIWYG) will be enforced - players using unrepresentative figures will not be able to use the miniature, or will be required to use it in accordance with the figure type and equipment represented. If players have any doubts, they should seek guidance from the organiser prior to fielding the miniature(s) in question.
Nominated armies must be drawn from the latest Games Workshop published WFB Army Books, or in the case of Dogs of War and Chaos Dwarfs use the lists on the GW website as they've had minor updates. In all instances, the latest published lists and rule clarifications shall be deemed to be the only such applicable and these must be released by the event cut off date of Friday the 2nd of July. Due to the fact that they are not available to all armies, armies from the 'Back of the Book' alternate lists and special/named characters will not be permitted. No Storm of Chaos lists for Dwarfs, Empire, Orcs & Goblins, High Elves, Vampire Counts or Daemons are allowed as they've all had new books since SoC was released, everything else from the SoC Army Book is ok.
Armies should be of 1500 points or less. Army lists must be submitted by 23rd of July. Please ensure your army list is legible and legal. Failure to have a legal list submitted by the due date will incur penalties. Army lists can be submitted via the email address on the entry form or via hard copy with your entry. Remember the whole teams entry must come in at the one time.
Players are requested to bring their own pen/pencil, tape or other measuring device, sufficient dice, a legible copy of their army list, and copies of the reference materials used to design the army list (eg. WFB Rulebook, WFB Army book, WD articles etc).
Games will consist of 6 turns, or as many as can be completed within 1 and three quarter hours. Remember you're playing a smaller points game, thus the shorter time period allocation. We shall be taking a 15 minute break between the completion of each round and the commencement of the next round.
The timings for games will be strictly adhered to. Players will be given 30 minute and 10 minute "warnings" prior to the end of the game. At the 10 minute point, if players are not finished their game already, it is recommended they finish the turn they are on, and end the game at that point. Games will not be allowed to extend into the break. Players deemed to be deliberately delaying so as not to finish the full 6 turn game will be warned once only by the convenor, and will then forfeit any subsequent games where they are deemed to be delaying. Any player noted as completing less than five turns consistently in their games will be first warned and then disqualified, which in turn means their team is disqualified.
All games will use the old "Pitched Battle" scenario. The rules to be used are those of the current (7th) edition of WFB. The only amendments or adjusted interpretations which shall apply are those that have been published in the Australasian editions of White Dwarf which were available for sale between the release of the rules and 2nd of July.
Team GT will use the "Swiss Chess" system to determine the draw. This will be based upon battle scores alone. The first round will be drawn randomly. From the second round onwards the draw will be seeded based on the cumulative team Battle points score. You will then play against a similarly ranked team, with your ranked one player playing their ranked one, your two vs their two and your three vs their three.
Under no circumstances will you play the same player more than once.
GENERALSHIP
Generalship (game results) will be worth 80 points of the overall score.
After each game, tally up victory points as normal for a pitched battle scenario (units destroyed, table quarters, captured standards, etc). Determine the number of battle points you score by comparing the margin of victory against the following table:
| Victory Point Margin | Battle Points | |
| Winner | Loser | |
| 1/2-175 | 11 | 9 |
| 176-350 | 12 | 8 |
| 351-525 | 13 | 7 |
| 526-700 | 14 | 6 |
| 701-875 | 15 | 5 |
| 876-1050 | 16 | 4 |
| 1051-1225 | 17 | 3 |
| 1226-1400 | 18 | 2 |
| 1401-1575 | 19 | 1 |
| 1576+ | 20 | 0 |
You will be given a results card to fill in after each game. Please note that it is the battle points from the table above you need to record here, not the victory point margin. Please ensure that the card is filled out correctly and that both players have signed off on the results, take it to your team captains who will then bring it to the organiser's desk.
GAMESMANSHIP:
Comes in two parts: 1 is Sportsmanship and 2 is the Composition of the Army and is worth 40 points overall.
SPORTSMANSHIP
Your sportsmanship score will be worth up to 20 points of your total score which is added to the team total at the end of the event. At the end of each game you will be asked to score your opponent against the following criteria:
Players will therefore receive a total of between 0 (for not being selected by any opponents) to 20 sportsmanship points (five points each from all four opponents).
COMPOSITION
Your composition will be worth 20 points of the total score. Player Judged Composition will be based entirely on your opponent's subjective opinion on the fairness, character and thematic suitability of your army. If it is deemed by your opponent that you have "cheesed out" and aimed to produce an army that is designed only with winning in mind, with no consideration for your opponent's enjoyment or of the army list's thematic background, then they will be expected to mark you poorly. If they deem that you have followed the background of your army book and put together a reasonable army list, they will be expected to score you highly.
At the end of each game you will be asked to compare the army you have just faced to the following criteria:
Players will therefore receive a total of between 0 (for not being given any points by any of your opponents) to 20 composition points (five points each from all four opponents).
COMBINING SCORES
Players will take the scores they have marked down for their opponent to their team captain who will pass them onto the organiser when all team results have been collected.
APPEARANCE
Army Appearance will be worth 15 points of the total score. The appearance category used to be called the "best painted" category, but has been re-named to better represent the other components that go into the category. These include (but are not limited to) painting, modelling, conversions, basing, colour scheme selection and other components. Appearance will consist of two elements - An organiser judged 'checklist' component 10 points and the player judged 'player's choice' 5 points.
The checklist score is a set of questions that will determine your basic painting score. The checklist will give you a potential 10 points, with the remaining 5 points coming from results in the 'beauty pageant' player judged component. The criteria for the checklist scoring is as follows:
The player judged "player's choice" will be run as follows; During the lunch break, at the end of Game 2, your table assignments will be posted and you should proceed to your table as normal but do not start deploying. Instead you should lay out your army for presentation in the 'beauty pageant' to follow. Players will be given a card to record their favourite 3 armies. Once all players have voted, the scores will be tallied. For each 1st place vote a player receives they will get 3 beauty pageant points, 2nd place gives 2 points, 3rd place 1 point. Votes will be added up and the player with the highest beauty pageant score will be determined the "Player's Choice". This judging also contributes to the overall best appearance component. The highest total of the beauty pageant will receive the full 5 tournament points with remaining place getters receiving a score proportionate to the winning total (rounding to the nearest 0.5pts). So if the winner of the beauty pageant scores 60 votes and you're lucky enough to score 30 votes (or 50% of his result), you will get a bonus 2.5 points towards your appearance score (ie. 50% of his full 5 marks).
Players who did not paint their own army are ineligible for votes in the beauty pageant and are asked not to display their name tag with their army over the lunch break.
In the event that two teams are tied in scores for the overall category, secondary and tertiary categories will be used as a fall back to determine the winner:
| Tie breakers: | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th |
| Overall | Battle | Sports | Comp | Painting |
