GT @ Summer Legends 2008

Summer Legends is an annual tournament put on by the League of Extraordinary Gamers, a very family orientated gaming club in Brisbane. The event is held in the high school at the end of my street, so I'd be hard pressed coming up with an excuse not to attend it ;) I usually bring out an army that's been gathering dust or try something new, rather then trying to go for a competitive army, as it's nice to try something different every now and then. So with that being the case this year I unpacked my Zulu Savage Orc army and whipped up a 2250pt list on the Friday night before the event with the models I had that were painted.

The List

Game one was vs Jay Calvert (jackal) and his High Elves

Jay Calvert

Jay had a lvl 3 mage, a BSB on horse with Sword of Might, 2 x 5 Dragon Princes, 15 Phoenix Guard, 7 Swordmasters, 1 x 16 White Lions with Full Command, 14 x White Lions with Full Command, 2 x 10 Archers, 2 x Eagles, 2 x RBT's.

I lucked out this game, miscasting with my lvl 2 and taking a wound no save, followed up by a miscast on my lvl 4, blowing his head apart, all in my first turn.

So the downhill slide went on from there. Joy of the day came when a unit of DP bounced off a unit of 10 SO's, but I couldn't run them down. Giant played fisticuffs with the Phoenix Guard, eventually succumbing to their skillful fighting. SO BB Biguns were blocked from one combat with a unit of white lions due to the generals chariot being in the way so I threw a gobbo wolfrider unit in the flank of the smaller White Lion unit, which allowed me to maneuver the SO BB Biguns into position to charge the bigger unit, turns out it was a waste of time as the ASF of the Elves came out to play and there jack all of my models left to fight.

2467pt loss to me which was a 4-16 and no massacre bonus

Game two was vs Emmanuel Beckman (sart) and his Savage Orcs

Emmanuel Beckman

Emmanuel had a SO Warlord on a Wyvern, Lvl 2 SO with Scroll & Power Stone, lvl 2 SO with Scroll & Stone, SO Big Boss in a Chariot, 5 SO Boar Boys, 5 SO Boar Boy Biguns, 4 x 12 SO Boys with extra choppas, 2 x 5 Spider Riders, 2 x 2 Snotlings.

I managed to get a stomp off on the So BB Biguns as well as a unit of Spider riders. My Boar chariot charge the other unit of Boar Boys, killed two but broke and was run down. Called the Waagh, leaving flank of a spear unit open to charge from the Wyvern, who charged in and didn't break the unit. Took another turn to break them pursuing and running them down. I charged my giant into the remaining Boar Boys Biguns, managed to stuff in the bag the Champion. Next round was Swing with CLub, taking out three, but then flank charged by a SO unit which drew in my general. Giant lost a couple of wounds, I lost combat twice, the giant died, releasing the SO BB Bigun champ and landing on my generals chariot, but did no wounds to it. The champ was killed by the SO Biguns when it had to charge in due to frenzy (it hadn't lost it as the combats were alll lost by me up til that stage)

The Boar Boys Biguns moved straight up the guts, getting a charge off on one of the BT's with a shaman attached, nuking them and over running into the next BT, taking it out as well. Fleeing units of Emmanuels either failed to rally, or did so just on the table edge.

501pt win to me which was a 11-9 with a bonus 4 for massacre.

Game three was vs Andrew Oldfield and his Nurgle Daemons

Andrew Oldfield

Andrew had an Exalted Daemon with 4+ Ward Save and Vomit, 3 x 3 Nurglings, 3 units of Plaguebearers which were 16'2 and 17's in size, 3 x 3 Plaguerider units.

Having played Nurgle Daemons for a little while I was more then aware of how to beat the army, yet somehow my plan came apart as the effects of Frenzy hampered me after smashing through Andrew's lines, leaving me open to flank and rear charges.

A combo charge from the Giant, Boar Boys and General failed when I declared in the wrong order, moving the giant in first (because it had to declare) then the Boar boys and General via Frenzy, but the giant's positioning kept the other two out, if I had have declared with the boar boys rather then waiting to do a frenzy charge then it could have made it in first before the giant, thus both would have made it in, and possible the general would have then missed out. Either way the Giant thumped with his club, taking out one plaguerider and lost combat but held on his stubborn test. Next round I broke through and went into a Plaguebearer unit but did nothing and died and fell over onto my General squishing him. The SO Biguns went through a unit of plaguriders but on the over run were setup to be smacked by two units of plagebearers in the flanks - which did them in.

1209pt loss which was a 7-13 with no massacre bonus

Game four was vs Ian Royale and his Dwarfs

Ian Royale

Ian had a Lord, Runsmith, Thane BSB and a Deagon Slayer, 20 Thunderers with full command, 10 Thunderers with full command, 20 Warriors with great weapons and full command, 20 Slayers with full command, 20 Hammerers with full command, Gyrocopter, Cannon and Organ Gun

I had a brain fart in this game and gave Ian the side of the table with the massive hill on it because I was too hung over to swap table sides. Karma was mighty as my lvl 4 miscast and popped his head again in the first turn. I marched my troops across the table, repeatedly being shot with the Cannon and thunderers doing 5 wounds on the giant and the Organ Gun 3 on the Boar boys in the first turn.

Turn 2 the lvl 2 miscast taking a wound. Miners charge 10 SO and broke them. The Giant was killed by the canon and the thunderers got a wound on the Generals chariot. 7 SO Biguns went down to the Organ gun and Gyros flamer. The Boar Boys went on to break the 20 Thunderers and over run off the table, leaving them in a prime position to be cleaned up by the Organ Gun when they came back on. The Miners charged the unit of SO they'd broken earlier which had rallied, whittling them down to 1, which broke and didn't rally. The Generals chariot got off a charge on the Canon taking care of it.

Massive loss which was 4-16 and no massacre bonus

Game five was vs Graham Marshall and his Orcs and Goblins

Graham Marshall

Graham had an Orc Warboss on a boar, a lvl 2 Orc shaman, lvl 2 Night Gobbo Shaman, 20 Black Orcs with full command, 16 Orc Arrer Boys, 1 Orc Chariot, 1 x 27 Night Gobbos with spears, shields, full command and 3 Fanatics, 1 unit of 25 Night gobbos with spears, shields, full command and 3 Fanatics, 5 Gobbo Wolfriders with bows, 5 Spider Riders, 20 Orc Boys with Extra Choppa and full Command, 3 Trolls

Wolf riders moved up to launch the fanatics, one went through them and one wound was taken, allowing room for the Boar Boys to get a charge off on the night goblins in behind. The Giant took on his Trolls with General, setting off Franatics in the process, who went through the trolls, doing a wound, the giant took a couple of wounds, doing two more taking out one troll but coping 3 wounds back, breaking and running from combat on an 11, no fall over, but stopped on the edge of a wood, failed to rally, made it through the wood, rallied and then was shot down by the Spider riders. 10 SO charged the pump wagon killing it and over running into impassable terrain (stopping at the edge) this allowed his now freed up General to charge their flank where he smacked them hard. My General and BSB tag teamed with the Orc Chariot taking on and threatening the Black Orcs and arrer Boys. The Orc chariot dealt with the arrer boys breaking them in one round and the character combo dealt with the BO's breaking them as well.

6pt loss which was a 10-10 with a bonus 4 for massacre

The Washup

So I finished up 22nd Overall out of 28 about where I'd expect to be with this type of army. My scores were 44/100 Battle points, 21/20 Sports (max with one bonus), 20/20 Comp and 25/25 Paint.

Thanks to Eddie Crompton for running the event, LXG for putting on the event and to all my opponents, thanks again for the games.
